Time, A Hermès Object Exhibition in Singapore

SINGAPORE – Entering into the atrium at Ngee Ann City, visitors were greeted by a playful scenography circuit that invited guests to experience Hermès time, a time that breaks free of temporal constraints to provoke a smile, a surprise, an emotion. Hermès time stems from a creativity that is devoid of any formalism.

Take a step into the scenography circuit to discover a maze where light and time melt into each other. In step with body movements performed before amusing two way mirrors, time stretches out, becoming evanescent or dematerialised, constantly reinventing its own space. Come to the end of the maze to take a seat at the photo booth where guests tried their hand at juggling. But wait, what was that behind them? The shadow of the Slim d’Hermès Grrrrr!

Exiting the maze, the playground continued in-store where monolithic windows lit up and faded away with pulsating light to reveal the Slim d’Hermès L’heure impatiente, Cape Cod Shadow and Slim d’Hermès Grrrrr! Where the visible revealed the invisible.

Tic-tac, the sound of a metronome, it was the start of the London-based Gandini Juggling troupe’s show. Over a series of short performances, the Gandini opened up our imagination to a world brimming with poetry and humour. A gradual crescendo leading up to the final act and at the end, exactly one hour had passed, a light-hearted game of anticipation leading up to an eagerly awaited moment.

A final goodbye but not before guests printed a small memento of their own juggling act to take home with them. A delightful reminder of their free-spirited time spent at the exhibition.

Hermès time is thus experienced in a mode within which every second becomes what one decides to do with it.
